During a stall the motor stops, and power surges up to 10X the amps rapidly draining the battery and sending more energy to the motor even though the motor is not moving.
A stall occurs when the motor can not surpass the load and resistance placed on the motor.
Competitor units have smaller motors with increased stall current. They are rated on PEAK wattage which is inaccurate for determining power under load (eg. their cleverly marketed 800W motor is actually a 270W motor with 3x amplification of stall current, and it is truly .3 HP motor rated for only 140 lbs maximum load and 7° incline resistance. .3 HP 270W at 3X amplified stall current = 810 peak wattage output so they say its an 800W motor to make you think you get more power when you actually don’t).
This is why their motors easily stall under load and minimal resistance. They are not = to 1 HP motors. The are only 1/3 HP motors.
Stalling the motor creates tremendous heat. Heat destroys their motors. The surging amps rapidly burn up motors. Not to mention when those imitators stall on inclines, the vehicle rolls backwards on hills under load creating additional safety concerns because the drum or band brakes only work in a forward motion. There is no braking during motor stalls on inclines with imitation similar looking trikes. YIKES!
Triad offers Certified motors that are true to spec.
Having certified motors engineered for Continuous/Rated power (e.g. 750W = 1 true hp) AND significantly limiting stall current in the motor controller provides 3X more usable power, works more efficiently and keeps your Triad motors running cool during operations under load because they have electrical continuity.
The peak power rating for Triad is a whopping 2250W. We just don't advertise our motors as peak power, because peak power is only used for a split second to get the vehicle moving from a dead stop. Once it is moving the continuous power is what is required. The remaining Free Current (or no-load current) is what is most important because that is how much current the motor draws when it is running freely, producing maximum speed and minimum torque (since there is no external opposing torque). Continuous/Rated power is the actual true power rating and you need all the free current for external resistance like inclines.
When you start with a motor that is 1/3 the size, and then advance the stall current as our competitors do, you start with less power, and all the free current remaining is eliminated and you have no remaining power left. Any resistance under load causes the motor to stall especially on inclines. That's no good.
Triad’s all wheel disc brakes stop the vehicle safely on inclines. Competitor’s drum and band brakes unwind and allow the trike to roll backwards on inclines.
Battery is the most important part to be sure the motors are getting the power they need to operate powerfully and efficiently.
